May Book Post – Surviving the Applewhites

Cover © HarperTrophy

Well, here we are again. The end.

I’ve had a great year in Guys Read. You?

Our final book of the year is Surviving the Applewhites, by Stephanie S. Tolan. As is our tradition, Mrs. B’s Mother/Daughter group is reading the same book, and we’ll meet all together for a potluck dinner and discussion. Oh, and Stephanie Tolan is Skyping with us. Super excited for that.

Surviving the Applewhites is about a boy, Jake, who’s really a bad dude. He basically gets into so much trouble that he has a choice between juvenile detention and going to this strange hippie-family compound. Um…he doesn’t fit in.

It’s great, and funny.

Also, you might want to watch The Sound of Music. It features prominently in the story. The hills are alive…

Can’t wait! We’ll start 30 minutes earlier to accommodate eating. See you then!

Meeting: Thursday, May 31, 6:00-7:30ish pm

  1. Yow! A great, great meeting tonight! So much to recap!

Thanks to everyone for bringing such delicious food. I thing I liked Manraj and Savikar’s mom’s samosas best. And Dusty’s mom’s meatballs. I love meatballs in sauce.

Great discussion, too! It’s so fun when we can have Mother/Daughter with us.

And the Skype…wow! So fun! Thank goodness we were able to find the power cord for the laptop–I might have started to cry! A big thank you to Mrs. Tolan for sharing her time with us, late at night (for her).

It’s been a great year for Guys Read! I’m sad it’s over!
