Graphic Novels recap

Usually I just put a comment on the book post page, but we did so much I had to make a whole post.

We started our meeting with some book-talks, since not all of us read the same books. I book-talked The Storm in the Barn by Matt Phelan and Babymouse by Jenni and Matt Holm. Robert talked Pokemon, Abbas did Lunch Lady, Dane told us about Bone, and Leo talked up Tintin. It was great hearing about the books from guys who loved them.

Then we voted on our favorites. The winner?

We loved that series! The guys in my class got to have a Virtual Visit with Jarrett J. Krosoczka on Tuesday. He’s a great guy and he’s written a great series. We award Mr. Krosoczka our first “TMCE Guys Read Best Graphic Novel Award.”

Then we ate cupcakes. Because…you know…Babymouse. They were pumpkin cupcakes with pink cream cheese frosting.

We talked a little bit about graphic novels as a medium (Our thoughts: A good story is a good story, whether graphically told or traditional).  Then we got all Tom Angleberger-y.

Some of the guys have been coming in during lunchtime to listen to Horton Halfpott and make videos for our Intercontinental Ballistic Reading Group partnership with SMS Guys Read. We’re loving it, and we’ll finish the book on Friday. I recently received a shipment of fake mustaches to support Tom Angleberger’s new book, Fake Mustache, which just came out and I can’t wait to read. We had fun with them.

Oh, and the next Origami Yoda book cover and title was announced! Check it out! I thought it was going to be R2-D2.

Anyway, it was a great meeting. We welcomed a new member, talked some awesome books, and got pink frosting on our faces (and hopefully not on my books). That sounds like a good night to me!
