Review: Skyfall

Cover © Stone Arch Books

Skyfall is the first book in a new fantasy series, Troll Hunters, by Michael Dahl. It’s a quick read, just over 100 pages, and it basically serves as an introduction to the main characters in the series. We meet them as they flee a sudden invasion of trolls in the middle of the night.

Why is everyone out of bed in the middle of the night? Well, there’s a sweet meteor shower going on, and everybody wants to watch. Are the meteors and the trolls connected?

Skyfall is a good enough start for the series, but I was a bit frustrated by how short it was. It seemed like the story barely got started and then it was over. I know it’s a series and there will be more books, but would have liked to have a bit more to the first book.

Troll Hunters is not going to take the reading world by storm. It’s no Harry Potter or Series of Unfortunate Events. However, it was enjoyable enough. It had some nice action. If you’re looking for a quick, simple, entertaining fantasy series, Skyfall could be a good place to start.
