November Book Post – Aliens on Vacation

Cover © Disney Hyperion

Wow! What a great first meeting! I cannot describe how awesome it is to be a part of this club.

I made a lot of big announcements at the last meeting; I’ll repeat many of them here or in other posts so you don’t forget.

First, our next book is Aliens on Vacation, by Clete Barrett Smith. This book is a science fiction comedy set right in our neck of the woods (basically the town of Glacier or Maple Falls). But that’s not the best part. The author lives in Bellingham! But that’s not the best part. The author is coming to our school on November 15 for an assembly and classroom visits! But that’s not the best part! Mr. Smith will also attend our Guys Read meeting on December 1st, combined with the Mother/Daughter Book Club! An actual author at our meeting! Yowza!

Yeah. It’s almost too much to handle. I’ll probably be a nervous, excited wreck for the next month. I’m very grateful to Mr. Smith for coming to our meeting, and to Mrs. I for bringing him to our school.

Meeting: Thursday, December 1, 6:30-7:30 pm

  1. Wowie! What a great time that was! Even though I was sick :^(

We packed the library (mostly Mother/Daughters, but we had a respectable 11 Guy Readers, including three newbies). I had to get more chairs from the classroom.

Clete Smith was a generous and gracious guest. He’s a funny guy, huh? We bombarded him with many questions, and he signed some autographs at the end.

Such a treat to have an author at our meeting! I can still hardly believe it. What did you think?
