TMC IBRG 4/30/15 – Marmotting around

Hey, readers! Hello, SMS Guys Read. We hope you enjoyed your track out.

We are still plugging along with The Terrible Two, by Mac Barnett and Jory John. Inspired by SMS’s shadow tail antics, we worked up some posters about our own state mammal, the Olympic marmot. Check it out!

TMC IBRG 3/19/15 – Pranksters’ Oath

Hey there, foolees and foolers. We met again this week to continue our read of The Terrible Two, by Mac Barnett and Jory John and Kevin Cornell. We are definitely enjoying the heck out of it. We met also, of course, to do some scheming and to make a video.

We had a good little discussion about what kinds of pranks and what kind of timing of pranks would maximize amusement while minimizing “trouble.” I’ll admit, I’m a little nervous about it. I also laid down the law a bit about pranking outside of our club-designed and club-approved “work.”

Anyways, we did do some prank planning, we’ve got lots of good ideas, and plan to put our first prank into action on that true prankster’s holiday, April Fool’s Day.

Can’t wait to see what SMS Guys Read gets up to.

Next week, we’ll also be talking a bit about marmots. More on that soon.

TMC IBRG – What kind of kid are you?

Hello there, IBRGers. We are back with another video. After our friends at SMS Guys Read told what kind of kids they are, we responded in kind. Quick after school teacher meetings prevented us from taking the Pranksters’ Oath last week, but we will do that on Thursday. Keep reading!

TMC IBRG returns

We are back.  We are sorry. We will never abandon you again. Maybe.

We have finished Frank Einstein, and found it quite enjoyable. We took a peek at our Scholastic Book Order, and we’ve selected The Terrible Two, by Mac Barnett (the first author TMC Guys Read ever Skyped with) and Jory John, as our next read. I’ve read it, and it’s pretty funny–about a good old-fashioned prank war. I’m looking forward to getting back into challenges, and I’m only a little nervous about the potential of our pranks getting a little crazy.

We will take the Pranksters’ Oath soon! In the meantime, keep reading!

TMC IBRG – Stabby balloons

Hey hey, #IBRG fans. We’ve been reading more of Frank Einstein, and really enjoying it. I’m thinking Frank’s going to get into a bit of trouble. I’m thinking we’re going to get into a bit of trouble, too. Not big trouble! Fun trouble.

We here at TMC Guys Read have been skimming through Steve Spangler‘s science books. There are a ton of crazy experiments and things. Some of them are a little too much for a lunchtime club, but we’ve found some good ones.

Last week, we picked “Skewer a Balloon.” You’ve seen it before. Somebody puts a spike through a balloon without popping it. But have you tried it? We found out that it all has to do with the polymers that make up the rubber of the balloon. The more stretched out they are, the harder it is to skewer. So, if you try, find the spots where the balloon is the least stretched out.

Here we go!

And the second round!

We picked a new experiment for next time–less…poppy than this one. OK, your move, SMS! Can’t wait to see what you get into!
